Greek Mythology Family Tree
I've created a comprehensive family tree diagram showing the major relationships in Greek mythology, starting from the primordial deities. Here's a breakdown of what you're seeing:
The Origins (Primordial Deities)
- Chaos: The void from which everything emerged
- From Chaos came the first beings: Gaia (Earth), Tartarus (Abyss), Eros (Love), Erebus (Darkness), and Nyx (Night)
- Gaia then produced Uranus (Sky), Ourea (Mountains), and Pontus (Sea)
The Titans
- Gaia and Uranus produced the twelve Titans, including Cronus and Rhea
- They also produced the Cyclopes and Hecatoncheires (hundred-handed giants)
- The Titans formed their own unions and produced various offspring
The Olympians
- Cronus and Rhea produced the first generation of Olympians: Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia
- Zeus had many consorts and children, creating most of the second generation of Olympians
Monsters and Creatures
- Many monsters trace their lineage to Typhon and Echidna, themselves children of Gaia and Tartarus
- Other monsters came from Phorcys and Ceto
Heroes
- The family tree also shows the divine lineage of heroes like Perseus and Heracles
The chart is color-coded to help distinguish between:
- Primordial deities (dark background)
- Titans (blue)
- Olympians (green)
- Heroes (gold)
- Monsters (red)
